My
name is Isak Howalt Owe, I am 20 years old, born and raised in a family filled
with theater-people. I grew up in Copenhagen, but currently live in Viborg.
This
is my letter of intention for the Character animation Bachelor 2013, here’s my

I
am applying the school, because I love animation and someday want to make my
own movie. I’ve been drawing since forever and have always been fascinated by
the idea of characters coming alive through animation. I love good stories and
think animation is one of the best ways to tell them. I’ve been making animations
ever since I got my first camera-phone, doing stop-motion animations with both clay
and paper.
I
applied for the CA Bachelor in 2011 after I finished high school, did not get
in, and decided to save up money for The Drawing Academy, which I attended in fall
2012.
My
teacher was Mads Peter Brandstrup Jensen, who taught me how to work towards the
drawings I want, by boosting my skills and pleasure in drawing.
One
of my greatest inspirational sources is John Lasseter. His way of animating the
inanimate, is a great inspiration to me. My other great sources of inspiration
are the films by Hayao Miyazaki, Charlie Chaplin, Tex Avery, Walt Disney,
Michel Gondry and Steven Spielberg.
I
also enjoy books like: “The green mile” by Stephen King, “The Hobbit” by
Tolkien and all the books in the series: “A story from the edge” written by
Paul Stewart and illustrated by Chris Riddel.
I
play video-games. Among my favorites to play are: the Zelda series, The Elder
Scrolls Series, Building Levels in GameGlobe and competing against friends in a
game of Street Figther.
I
also find a lot of inspiration in music, I’ve been playing the piano most of my
life, I also know how to play the guitar and the drums. Some of my favorite
artists are “Lemon Jelly”, “Duke Ellington”, “Eels” and “Daniel Lanois”.
I
take my inspirations serious. When I get an idea I try to explore every nook
and cranny. I love to create stories, gags and characters that can evoke some
kind of emotion in the audience.
I
feel I can express myself better through a drawing instead of using words. Being
from a family of actors, I grew up with the languages of the body and the words.
For a few years I acted as an extra at the Royal Danish Theater, and during high school I directed a
stage-fight scene and wrote a funny sketch for the School play.
However
being able to act through animated characters in a story is more appealing to
me rather than using my own body. Being able to act through animated characters
is more appealing to me, because everything is possible. As the old saying
goes: “A picture says more than a
thousand words”.
I
have experience in Photoshop and Adobe Flash and also have basic knowledge in
Blender, Maya and 3DS Max.
I
hope I have given you an impression of who I am, and what my interests and
dreams are.
I
would very much like to attend the CA Bachelor 2013 to learn the arts and
crafts of animation, to make me able to take it further and fulfill my dreams.
